I work with a pin manufacturer that is eco-conscious and some of the friendliest folks I've worked with. Here's what they say about picking wood over enamel pins:

Custom-printed wooden pin badges are made from responsibly sourced, fast-growing woods and are available in a choice of 4mm thick Maple, Cherry and Walnut veneered MDF. (I will be going with Maple for my pins.)

Eco Fact - wooden pins use 20 to 24 times less energy to produce than enamel pins!
