BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

This says it is a solo-journaling game, but... can I play this with other people?

YES! In fact, I really enjoy running "solo-journaling" TTRPGs as a duet game with my kid. When a prompt comes up in the game, we chat about it, I help him with writing, and we play together. I've also seen this be played on a stream with the group chat giving suggestions AND I made this with the intention of being available for a classroom assignment too where students can journal separately then compare their story paths.

Can I play the game with just the slides or just the journal?

You can play the game with just the journal - the journal includes everything you need to play from character sheets to the mechanics explination to the story. The slides are a companion to the journal, and they do not include character sheets or an up front mechanics explination, so you will need the journal still to use the slides effectively.

When will I get my rewards?

Right now, we plan to have all physical rewards in the mail and all digital rewards fulfilled by June 2025 or earlier.

Why is shipping, tax, etc being charged later?

Shipping, tax, and any other potential country-specific fees will be charged later for a few reasons. 1. Saves on shipping cost: Products are being created as print-on-demand per order and then shipped together. This means that if you order a bundle then also order some physcial add-ons, instead of shipping spearately and charging for shipping multiple times, I can combine the shipping cost to save you money. However, I'll need to look up what that combined shipping cost is for your particular address, and that's best done after the campaign when I can see what your full order is. 2. Allows for accurate shipping cost: Shipping costs, especially international shipping costs, can change drastically over time. Because this project will ship several months after the end of the campaign, it is necessary to calculate shipping cost at a time closer to shipping to make sure the amounts are accurate and can actually cover getting the game to you. 3. Allows for research and accuracy: There are A LOT of different rules and intricacies between countries, and I don't want to mess anything up! Charging tax and shipping later gives me time to research how to ship to and meet all the rules of different countries to ensure that your rewards get to you and aren't held in customs or for other reasons because of inadequate tax or fee considerations.

How will I know what shipping and tax will be?

For the reasons stated above (like shipping requirements changing over time), I cannot give an EXACT number for what the shipping for any location will be, however, it is possible to estimate for some common locations. Here is a range of estimates based on what DriveThruRPG (our printer) and USPS would roughly charge today (July 2024) for these rewards. Low end = more typical for US, MEX, UK, and EUR High end = more typical for some regions in CAN and countries outside of US and EUR Journal only ~ $6 -$20 Journal + Card Deck ~ $10 -$15 Replay Hero Bundle ~ $15 -$20 Boxed Set ~$25 - $60 These are estimates, and I'll calculate the final number based on all of your rewards to save the most that I can for you on shipping. For tax and any other fees for your country, you will be charged based on location. In the US, this will follow state sales tax rules. Outside of the US, it will follow the particular international rules for your location.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

You can request a refund within 2 weeks of the end of the funding campaign. The project ends on August 7, 2024 which means you have until August 21, 2024 to request a refund. After that date, we cannot provide a refund unless it is to refund damaged or lost rewards during fulfillment. Failing to provide your shipping address, not paying for shipping, or not paying for tax will not warrant a refund.
