Project Update: Games on the boat, gotta finalize those shipping addresses! 🚣

Heya, good news! Your games are on the freight boats! 🥳

Freight Tracking 🚢

Your games are embarking on the first leg of their journey to you in freight ships! They are currently making their way across the oceans to our regional warehouses. Their expected arrival at port is in between late July to early August depending on the location, and then, they will be transported to the warehouses for inbounding.

We expect all warehouses to complete the inbounding process in August so we can start shipping games, but this will depend on how quickly the games can get through customs and ground transportation. We will continue to give you fulfillment updates and will let you know when we are better able to estimate when packages will be able to start shipping from each warehouse 🫡

If you're as excited as we are and want to track the progress of the games as they cross the water, here are the individual ship details:

North America

Europe (This ship is currently scheduled to arrive in Great Britain early August, and the tracking should update soon to reflect this journey)

Oceania

Asia

Combined Shipping Options 🧐

If you backed both the Mythic Mischief Vol 2 and Moonrollers + Dark Matter campaigns, first, thank you for your double support! Second, you may be eligible for a refund on your Moonrollers shipping 🫢

Due to some unexpected production delays on this project's ambitious 6-month delivery schedule, its timeline happened to sync up with the shipment of the Mythic Mischief games. Hence, they are currently being shipped together on the same boats, and we now have the option to merge the Moonrollers and Mythic Mischief Vol 2 fulfillment to save you some shipping costs!

We plan to merge the two orders to be shipped together in one package to you, and we will refund you 100% of the Moonrollers shipping costs after we have confirmed the merged shipping.

No action is required other than you confirming the emails match between your Mythic Mischief and Moonrollers BackerKit orders. If your emails don't match or if you have any questions, please send us an email with the subject line "Moonrollers + MMV2 Merge Orders

If you would rather have the two orders shipped in separate parcels, please let us know with this form by August 6th so we can notify the warehouses in advance. Note, the parcels will still be shipped in the same time frame, but just in individual boxes and without the refund.

Shipping Refunds for merged orders:
The refunds for Moonrollers shipping costs will take place after Aug 6th, which is the deadline for letting us know if you would like to opt-out of the combined shipping. We plan to send the refund through the original card you used on the Moonrollers BackerKit pledge manager.

Though the shipping timeline for Moonrollers has shifted a few months from our projected timeline, we are still grateful to be able to deliver this game less than a year from its funding! We're excited to get these games to you!

But to do that, we need the right address... 🤲

Shipping Address Changes 📦

We will be finalizing all shipping addresses on August 6, 2024 to begin shipping in late August and early September 2024.

If you are unsure where you will be located in August or September, please change your shipping information to a secure address so that you will be able to receive your game. This can be a family member's or friend's address instead.

You can change your shipping information by recovering your Backerkit survey, and then clicking either the "Edit Shipping Info" or "Edit Your Address" button.

If you need any help with shipping address changes, you can email our support team at [email protected] with the subject line "Moonrollers Address Change" and we will respond as soon as possible!

Reddit AMA on r/boardgames

We're hosting an AMA on Reddit where you can ask us anything! The event will start tomorrow, July 11th (10am to 12pm CDT) and will be pinned at the top of the subreddit.

If you're more interested in a live gameplay, we have more of those too! Right after the Reddit AMA, we will have a gameplay livestream with Q&A.

We would love to see you at either event! 🥰

Project Update: Production complete + next steps + win a signed alpha deck + Gen Con

Hello backers!

We're excited to share that we've passed another major milestone and we have a few big updates to share!

Here are the headlines, which we'll get into in more detail below:

  • All production on Lore Master's Deck, expansions, and accessories is complete!
  • Next our printer is packing everything for ocean freight.
  • We're giving away a free signed alpha deck if you fill out our customer survey.
  • We'll be at Gen Con and we hope you'll come visit our booth!

Also, in case you missed it, you can catch the replay of our 100%-from-scratch improvised TTRPG session created live using only card prompts.

Let's get into the details!

All production is complete

That's right! We'll share the final production samples with you have a chance, but for now we're thrilled to announce that production is finally complete on everything: the deck, the expansions, the journal, the storage boxes, the sleeves, the playmats, and the pins.

Which brings us to…

The next step: preparing freight

The next phase of fulfillment is preparing for ocean freight, which involves a few steps:

  • Packing decks into labelled shipping cartons.
  • Bundling expansion sets and sleeve multipacks. Plus a new tactic we're trying: pre-bundling common pledge tier combinations during production to streamline fulfillment once freight arrives at our local hubs.
  • Preparing pallets for sea shipping, including dividing product allocations to each hub.
  • Finalizing freight quotes and arrangements.
  • Sending freight to port to await pickup.

A lot of spreadsheets are involved to ensure all the numbers are correct for bundling, splitting freight, and cost analysis. So. Many. Spreadsheets.

Depending on the state of global freight, this process can take 4-8 weeks. After that, the next steps are waiting for the freight itself to be loaded onto a ship, traverse waters, arrive in port, clear customs, be transported to our hub, received and inventoried, sample-packed for approval, and finally be greenlit for fulfilment!

We'll keep you in the loop as we continue to pass milestones. The good news is that we are still on schedule for our original timeline!

Win a free signed alpha deck

We released a customer survey this week to learn more about how people use our decks (or plan to use our decks), and what people would like to see us develop next.

If you complete the 2-minute survey, you'll be entered to win a free signed copy of the alpha Lore Master’s Deck deck!

Please complete the survey by July 16 to be entered to win.

Come see us at Gen Con Aug 1-4

We'll be at Gen Con again this year. If any of you are coming, we hope you'll swing by booth block 1237 to meet the team!

Our panel "Master the Art of Worldbuilding in a TTRPG Writer's Room" featuring Derek Chung of EMBERWIND/Nomnivore Games is sold out, but we'll try to either livestream or record the event (or both) so anyone who doesn't have a ticket already can join us!

Bonus update

Miroki dropped her latest opera metal single "The Edge of Life" this week! She even wrote a Story Engine blog about her songwriting process! We hope you'll check both out!

As always, feel free to send us a DM, leave us a comment, or reach out through the contact form (including your details) if you have any questions!

Project Update: That's a wrap! Notes on what's to come.

Hey everyone, thanks a ton for the trust you're putting in us with this project. We're thrilled to be able to get to do this and to have you all along for the ride!

Pledge manager: Once everyone's pledges are processed, I'll have the pledge manager set up for anyone that wants to grab any more add-ons. Late backing will be available then as well. I'll post an update when that happens.

Updates: I don't want to be bombarding you guys with update e-mails, but don't want to leave you uninformed. My current plan is to post major iterations to the Quickstart up on here and any news that comes in. For example, when we move from v0.3 to v0.4, I'll make a post.  But v0.4.1 to v0.4.2, I won't. If you want those smaller updates to the Quickstart, please subscribe to us on DTRPG.  The bigger updates will be things like releasing new classes.  If there's been silence for a month, I'll hop on and give an "All's Well" update with less interesting stuff but just to make sure you know we're still working away. Feel free to ping me at any time here on the Backerkit, at my e-mail ([email protected]), or on Discord (@jdmwell) if you want an update on what's going on or have any questions.

I'll also make a point to have a discussion update as we near the final version to get a very full round of feedback from everyone. Please keep that in mind as you read, learn about, and play the game, as I'd like to hear as many opinions as possible!

Discord/Communication: I also wanted to mention that I do discuss the game a lot on Discord. We've had some great discussions tossing around thoughts and ideas, and gathering feedback.  I know that some don't use Discord or already have enough servers. I don't want anyone to feel left out!  I'm more than happy to discuss the game here on Backerkit in the comments as well, so if you have feedback or questions, please post them up and I will definitely answer!  I apologize about the Discord-focus and if it seems like I'm ever accidentally leaving the backers that aren't there out of the loop, please call me out on it

Shipping: As was said within the campaign, shipping will be charged just before the books are shipped out, after they have been printed. We have everything lined up for that and are working with reputable companies, so it should be smooth. For anyone wondering, the fulfillment center is shipping from the United States and there are (very rough) shipping estimates in the FAQ.

Timeline: This is on the campaign page, but we are still following this timeline:

For digital rewards, you should be receiving them in November 2024.  For physical rewards, they should arrive in March 2025. These are estimates. Take a look below to see our current timeline.

The timeline towards completion and delivery of rewards looks like this:
  • Q3 2024: Updates to the preview document sent out to get testing and feedback on the entire game before heading to print.
  • Q4 2024: Full game PDF of Grimwild, Nevermore, and Gaelenvale finalized and sent to backers. Print order placed.
  • Q1 2025: Printer ships books and fulfillment begins
  • Q1 - Q2 2025: Game arrives at your house.

I'm going to be frank here, the above are very conservative estimates and assume that something will delay the project somewhere. I would rather underpromise and overdeliver here.  We've been quoted a 30-45 day turn around time on printing, so I really believe we'll be making it well within that above timetable. I feel like that "March 2025" date is more the date if something goes wrong and kills a month or two out of our schedule.

Playtests: Games have been getting organized on our Discord and we've had people running playtests in-person, and even solo. All of the feedback has been wonderful and everyone seems to be enjoying the game, which is great! If you're interested in getting involved, I highly encourage you to. If you want help getting a group going, reach out to me and I'll help corral players or a GM, or set one up myself!

Looking for an Actual Play crew: This is a bit of a longshot, but is there anyone who regularly does Actual Plays that would be interested in doing a few-shot (3 sessions, maybe) of Grimwild?  It doesn't have to be immediate, but at some point I'd like to be able to point people towards a quite well done Actual Play to show them as a tutorial. I get asked this a lot, but I've never set up anything like this myself, nor do I have a regular group that wants to be recorded and put online. It's just not our thing, really.  You don't have to be a popular show or anything, but it'd be nice having a group with quality cams/mics and can make a good quality video.  Anyway, if you're interested or know anyone, please reach out!

Digital Tools: It was mentioned before, but progress is being made on a Foundry module and Google Sheets versions of the character sheets will be up soon.

A community member (Cyboogie) also posted up some really cool web apps they whipped up showing some of the game's crucibles and probabilities for rolls.  Check them out!
https://junbl.github.io/dice/spellcrucible
https://junbl.github.io/dice/gmcrucible
https://junbl.github.io/dice/analysis/diminishingpools
https://junbl.github.io/dice/analysis/rollswiththorns

If anyone else is interested in getting involved in development, please get in touch! There's lots of neat things that could be done, so if you're looking for a project or want to help provide support for your favorite VTT, give a shout.

---------------------

Oh yeah, I also wanted to return a favor. Jex making the FitD game Bump in the Dark posted up a link to Grimwild (and is backing the game!) in one of their Backerkit updates. That campaign just ended and had they let me know sooner, I woulda been able to point people over there during the campaign, but as luck has it, late backing is now open!  Seriously, it's a really cool game that's getting a revised version (so you know it's well-tested), a Forged in the Dark game of modern monster hunting and found family. I freaking love the town map in the game. It just feels like the perfect semi-isolated American almost-a-city.

Okay, that's it for now. Thanks a ton! We're happy to be working with you all on this!

- Max, Per, and Luke.

Has anyone affected by the unexpected bank charges recently received any word from Cephalofair yet? I'm aware that there are likely a lot of support tickets right now, so there might be a delay, but some recognition that it was inappropriate and an explanation of how it will be rectified will go a long way.

I think that Bulwark should switch places with Fighting Style as the Fighter's Core Ability. The Fighter is supposed to "have mastery of weapons," but the core ability doesn't reflect this. The fighting style options are extremely limited, almost all of them focusing on the type of weapon the character is using rather than how they actually fight. The exception, dual-wielding, is an objectively worse version of the one-handed weapon option, because a character can only dual-wield by holding an individual weapon in each hand. Without the weapon specified by the Fighting Style, the default Fighter lacks any advantage in combat over the other classes. In terms of balance, Fighting Style is a reskinned version of the Wizard's School Mastery, making it noticeably weaker than the core abilities of other classes. The Wizard and Cleric have magic. The Rogue gains not just +1d like the Fighter does but also a versatile Contingency pool that comes up again later in the ability list. Bulwark is a powerful ability that is even recommended outside the context of the Fighter class. It is the ability that currently best represents the Fighter's combat mastery, because it allows the character to outlast the other classes in a conflict. Using this as the Fighter's Core Ability would not just give the Fighter a niche, which it currently lacks, but also rebalance a universally potent multiclass option.

Project Update: Update #24-Fullfillment update and GenCon is almost here!!!

Little Ones are Coming Your Way Soon!

Hello Wonderful Backers,

We hope you're all enjoying a fantastic summer. The wild blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries are in full swing, and we've been loving these impromptu snacks on our local trails. As we approach the start of fulfillment for Wild Gardens, we wanted to provide you with updates on the timelines for each region and share our excitement for the best four days in gaming—GenCon!

Fulfillment Timeline Update:
All things Wild Gardens are currently in transit to their final destinations. Our fulfillment partners have everything they need and will begin shipping as soon as they receive the games. Here are the current ETAs for when each fulfillment center will receive the products:

  • AUS/NZ - July 17th
  • UK/EU - July 17th
  • US - August 11th
  • CA - August 13th

Based on these dates, we expect all backers to have received their Wild Gardens games and accessories by the end of August!

GENCON Block Pary

GenCon and Wild Gardens:
We’ve always promised to be transparent with our backers, so we want to address Wild Gardens being sold at GenCon this year. We had hoped to have most of the fulfillment underway by the time of the show, but unexpected port delays disrupted our plans. The cost of having a booth at a convention, paying contractors to help staff it (we don't use volunteers), and covering the hotel and food for our team is very expensive—especially at GenCon, where prices are often higher.

To help cover these costs, we calculated how many copies we needed to bring just to cover our expenses. We had 125 copies air-shipped to GenCon for this purpose. Backers outside the US will have already started receiving their copies, and those in the US and Canada should begin receiving them within 10 days of the show. We hope you understand and appreciate our commitment to transparency about these decisions.

Find Us at booth #255
GenCon Previews:
GenCon is almost here, and we have a lot of exciting previews in store for you! Whether you're eager to try our new party game Turnip, curious about the buzz surrounding our special series of Birds Games, or looking to get a sneak peek at our epic co-op campaign game Gone to Gaia, we've got you covered. Visit us at booth #255 or stay tuned to your favorite board game media channels for all the updates!

We can't wait to see you at GenCon and to see copies of Wild Gardens hitting tables. Your favorite reviewers have also begun receiving advanced copies of the game, so be sure to tune in to your favorite shows to see what they think.

Thanks for your continued support!

So, I’ve been adding up numbers of what I already have, what I have recently ordered off of Amazon, the big box, plus expansions I’m ordering during this campaign. It brings my total card count to 1474, not including the blank cards should I choose to make any. I can grab two packs of your card sleeves at 800 each, and I’m well covered for that. But I want to know if they will actually all fit in the box. It says 2000 unsleeved cards. How many unsleeved? Do the sleeves double the thickness of the cards, so thereby halving the amount of cards you can fit? Or are they half a card thickness, allowing you to fit 1500 cards? I would really love to know this before adding 1600 card sleeves to my order. Please, and thanks.

If I add on the physical deck, do I get the PDF or do i need to add that on as well? Will all the contents of the deck also be contained in the book itself?

Hello, I've been searching here and in my emails for a while now, but unfortunately I haven't found anything about shipping dates. I am interested to know when the physical products will arrive in Europe, Germany? Thanks for your help :D
